What do the new rules say? 
 

The changes in lottery games introduced in November 2018 include the new concept of “Must be Won” rolldown draws. This means that players will no longer have to hope for the same number combination as the winning jackpot number to win. There will be fixed prizes to be won for matching the number on the five balls along with the bonus ball. In addition, the prizes announced for all non-jackpot winners are fixed as opposed to the earlier method of giving them a percentage of the total prize fund. 

The rules regarding rollovers have also been modified. The earlier jackpot amount was limited to approximately more than Rs. 197 crores corresponding to only one rollover. The new rules mandate five rollovers before announcing the jackpot winner. However, if no player comes forward to claim the winning jackpot amount owing to a mismatch in all the six balls in the fifth and final rollover draw, the jackpot amount will be divided between the players who have claimed their prizes after matching three or more numbers. 

As per the changed National Lottery rules, players with similar number combinations on the five balls, in addition to the bonus ball, will win more than Rs. 8 crores. Those with matching five balls sans the bonus ball will win more than Rs. 1,50,000 while the winning four-ball combination will win roughly more than Rs. 12,000. The prize winnings from matching three balls have gone up to nearly more than Rs. 2000 as opposed to the earlier prize amount. 

What remains unchanged? 

There has been no change in the prices of lottery tickets and the players will continue to choose numbers between 1 and 59. 

Lottery organizers stress that the rules have been introduced to make the games more appealing. Interested players find that their chances of winning have increased and this has added to the appeal of the lottery.
